I write a real estate column for the Thousand Islands Sun our local paper and since Thanksgiving is just around the corner I was writing about thanking someone who made a great impression or a difference in your life. Mr. Benson came to mind. As I was searching to see if I could find out if he was still in Pittsfield I cam across your post. You say it oh, so well.
Melanie

Re: More Memories of Bernard Malamud

I read all of his books as a child. I'm seeing a large percentage of my work these days not from only major publishers, but by authors engaged in putting their own book into print, hiring an editor/proof reader to make the corrections and suggest changes, hiring me to create their cover, and then going on to have the book printed (usually print-on-demand). From there they go about promoting their publication. The system works well and isn't much more complicated than going through a mainstream publisher (in fact, probably easier considering the submission/rejection fiasco is avoided).

--Duncan
=====================
Freelance illustrator for HarperCollins, PS Publishing, Pocket Books, Solomon Press, American Media, Fort Ross, Asimov's Science Fiction, and many other publishers. On top of that, I cannot get Kindle books outside the US; I can purchase other eBooks. As for image quality, the Nook may overtake the Kindle. And rumors of the iPhone eBook ability may also prove to be a major contender. That said, I don't know that I am ready, yet, to invest in an eBook reader, mainly because there is still a great deal of work to be done for the reader to become as common place a choice as a book on my shelf.

Re: Multitudes of eBook Readers

As a recent Amazon Kindle owner, I can say that there are two categories missing from your list: image quality and book price. Both of these categories helped convince me to purchase a Kindle over other brands. It has the best image quality - which seems to be very important and reduces eye strain while eReading. Also, most Kindle books are $10 or less, whereas most of the books for other readers cost around $20 per book.

I look forward to following your eBook discussion.

Re: Joseph Kaufman “Roots”

you made me smile.
love,
your sister lauren

Re: Using Social Media as a Marketing Strategy

I know all about this, but how does the message get out there?

Re: Women (Publishers) Can Be Heroes Too

Thanks for this post and saying such positive things about Kassia, Malle, Sarah and I.
